Kentucky River Regional Jail inmates accused of overpowering guard, escaping

PERRY COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Kentucky River Regional Jail says two inmates escaped Sunday night and, for one of the inmates, this is the second time this month he has escaped.

Jail officials say Carl Engle and John Miller overpowered a guard and stole a set of keys around 7:45 p.m. Sunday. Authorities are still searching for them.

Engle escaped September 1 while being treated at a hospital in Hazard. The Hazard Police Department says Engle overpowered the deputy guarding him and took his uniform shirt. He was arrested a short time later.
