Kentucky Native Accused Of Trying To Bring Explosive Onto Flight
A former Kentucky marine is making headlines after authorities said they found an explosive and artillery fuses in his luggage at a California airport.
Gregory Salyer, 23, of Independence, Ky. was arrested Tuesday at John Wayne Airport.
Authorities said he was trying to board a plane when Transportation Security Administration agents saw something suspicious while screening his luggage.
A local bomb squad responded to the scene.
They said inside Salyer’s checked bag they found three military artillery fuses, a sting ball grenade – which is an explosive that shoots out rubber projectiles – a small knife and about 300 steroid and Adderall pills.
The airplane and the gate were evacuated.
Authorities said the military took possession of the grenade and fuses, which Salyer was not authorized to have.
Salyer could face charges for placing an explosive device in a checked bag, possession of a prohibited weapon in an airport, possession of stolen property and possession of the pills.
