Kentucky Leaders Comment on Virginia shooting

VIRGINIA (WTVQ) – Kentucky leaders comment on the shooting that occurred Tuesday morning at the congressional baseball practice in Virginia.

Governor Matt Bevin‏ tweeted:
“Our prayers are with @SteveScalise and others who were just shot and injured while playing softball at a park…Senseless disregard for life”

Andy Beshear tweeted this morning:
“Praying for the Congressmen, staff, and capitol police targeted in this morning’s shooting.”

Congressman Andy Barr today released the following statement:

“Carol and I offer our thoughts and prayers to my good friend House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, his wife Jennifer and their children, as well as to my other colleagues, the staff members and law enforcement officers affected by this morning’s shooting and to their families. We pray for their full and speedy recovery.”

“I am grateful today and always for the brave service of the Capitol Hill Police and all law enforcement officers who dedicate their lives to keeping us safe.”


Congressman James Comer is not on the Congressional Baseball Team, so he was not at the practice where the shooting occurred. The Congressman released the following statement following today’s horrific events.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Congressman Steve Scalise and the others wounded in the cowardly shooting this morning. The Capitol Police acted bravely and ended a very tragic situation from getting worse.”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell‏ statement on twitter:

“My prayers are with those wounded this morning & their families. Continued appreciation to Capitol Police & first responders.”
