Kentucky Children’s Hospital hosts “Teddy-Bear Hospital”
Lexington, Ky. (WTVQ) — Kentucky Children’s Hospital hosted it’s “Teddy Bear Hospital” for children on Saturday.
The hospital partnered with the Living Arts and Science Center and Ace Hardware and had a make shift hospital, where children could bring their teddy bear and have them be the patient.
The event began at 10 a.m.
Children were able to take their stuffed animal and learn about things like x-rays, blood tests, lab work and so much more.
“It is just absolutely fantastic. The children are so excited, the parents are smiling and everybody is engaged,” said Jennifer Guilliams with KHC. “The medical professionals that are here volunteering their time are so engaged with the kids in teaching them and helping them to learn, so that they’re not fearful of medical interventions that they may have to have someday. We really are trying to create positive coping, positive understanding and a positive experience about health for children.”
While walking around children could fill out a patient card for their stuffed animal and make a treatment plan for them as well.
