Kentuckians like working from home more than most

KENTUCKY, Ky. (WTVQ) – While the data doesn’t provide a direct link, some of the top states where people have enjoyed working from home the most during the coronivirus-rpompted shutdown also are among those that have had the lowest rates of coronavirus per 100,000 population.

According to geotagged data put together by the health and wellness site fitbug.com using trends software with direct access to geotagged twitter data. They do health and lifestyle based trends maps every month.

The data found Kentuckians were the third-happiest in the country with  working from home. Utah and Kansas residents ranked ahead of Kentucky.

The top 10 states whose residents  enjoy working from home are:

1. Kansas
2. Utah
3. Kentucky
4. Washington
5. Virginia
6. Oregon
7. Minnesota
8. Arizona
9. Indiana
10. New York

The data is based on geotagged twitter data in the last month, tracking positive sentiment tweets about working from home. For example, tweets with phrases such as “I love working from home” or “I enjoy working from home,” were considered a favorable response.

More than 200,000 tweets were tracked.

States in the Midwest, Mountain Region, and Northwest seemed to enjoying it the most.

This comes as several companies, such as Shopify and Twitter, have announced a permanent shift out of the office for some of their employees.

A large scale shift to working at home has been discussed as one of the prominent long term effects of COVID-19 on society.
