Keeneland Spring Meet ends with strong crowds, new paddock experience
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Fans gathered Friday at Keeneland for the final day of the 2026 Spring Meet, capping 16 days of racing with a full slate of 10 races.
A Keeneland representative described the meet as spectacular, thanks to “the best fans in the business.”
“Our crowds have been strong; the weather has been fantastic,” said Kara Heisenbuttle, the Senior Director of Community Relations at Keeneland. “It’s been so exciting to open our new paddock building and welcome fans to new experiences that they’ve never had before.”
In addition to racing — including opportunities for horses to qualify for the Kentucky Derby — the Spring Meet introduced several new amenities. The paddock building features five dining experiences, including one that allows guests to watch jockeys walk through the dining room before races. Fans can also view horses entering the paddock from a new vantage point on the north end.
Heisenbuttle said the facility also includes multiple dining options and a rooftop bar, all aimed at bringing fans closer to the action.
“That’s a really incredible experience that our fans have never had before,” she said.
While the Spring Meet concluded on Friday, activity at Keeneland will continue later this year. The track is set to host its Fall Meet in October, along with the Breeders’ Cup.
“We’re so excited to welcome Breeders’ Cup back here to Keeneland,” Heisenbuttle said. “When we hosted the first time in 2015, we knew that it was something special to be able to be here at Keeneland. It’s just going to be a spectacular fall as Keeneland prepares for the world stage.”
For those unable to attend the Spring Meet, Keeneland will host a Derby Day event on May 2, inviting the public to watch and celebrate one of horse racing’s biggest days at the track.
