Keeneland, Red Mile celebrate Derby, Oaks in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Not everyone can hitch a ride to Louisville this weekend, but if you’re in town and still want to get in on the excitement, both Keeneland and The Red Mile are inviting locals to come by and watch the races.

On Friday at Keeneland, general admission and parking are free, with gates opening at 9:00 a.m.  Patrons can picnic inside the grandstand area, and there will be a Party in the Paddock event from 4-7 p.m.  On Saturday, the gates will again open at 9:00 a.m. with free parking and a $5 entrance fee.  Live music will play in the paddock from 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.  Children’s pony rides will be offered from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.  A derby Hat contest will be in the paddock at 3:00 p.m.  Find more information at www.keeneland.com/calendar/derby-weekend.
