Keeneland and Red Mile host Derby parties

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The 150th Kentucky Derby was on Saturday and for those who didn’t make it out to Louisville, there were few parties in Lexington.

Keeneland held a Derby party and tailgate on Saturday with the gates opening at 10.

People could purchase tickets online for the event.

Attendees were decked out in their best clothes and many even wore derby hats.

“We do this almost every season,” said attendee Paige Brown. “We enjoy coming here and it’s easier than going to Louisville. The crowds are not as much, but you still get the same experience, we love it.”

Some attendees say this event is more convenient.

“After attending Churchill Downs a couple of years ago, this is just a much better place to come,” said attendee Zach Bishop. “It’s a little bit more laid back and we just enjoy our friends and enjoy the horses.”

And Red Mile hosted its Derby party today, with doors opening at 10:30.

Attendees were able to bet on the Derby, watch the race and enjoy a buffet.
