Judge Won’t Lift Lethal Injection Ban

Kentucky’s ban on lethal injections will continue for now, as a judge says the process still has some unresolved problems.

Judge Phillip Shepherd, a circuit judge in Franklin County, issued the ban in 2010 just before the planned execution of Gregory L. Wilson for a 1987 murder in Kenton County. The ban came after a group of death row inmates filed suit, saying the process was cruel and unusual.

Thursday, Judge Shepherd declined to lift that ban. Earlier this year, Kentucky revised its regulations to use one drug instead of a three-drug cocktail.
