Jacobson Park Playground Design Unveiled

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington Parks & Recreation unveiled designs for a new playground at Jacobson Park on Monday.

David William and Associates, which has extensive experience designing accessible and inclusive playgrounds, and Element Design designed the destination playground.

Council member Jennifer Scutchfield said she is excited to have a new inclusive playground in Jacobson Park. “Jacobson serves so many in Lexington, and we’re happy to have a playground that will cater to toddlers up to tweens,” Scutchfield said. “This project has been a long time in the works, and I appreciate all the stakeholders who have come together to make this project happen.”

For lovers of the existing playground, the original towers are included in the landscape design. In addition, wood from the current playground will be used for signage, boardwalks and seating.

The playground will feature Lexington’s first “tot lot,” a place for children under age 2 to play. The design also has a two-story observation deck overlooking the lake at Jacobson Park. In addition there is space for future development.

Construction will begin at the end of winter.
