J-turn safety improvement project has started at intersection in Laurel Co.
MANCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ)- Work has started on a J-Turn safety improvement project at the intersection of KY 80 and KY 1535 in Laurel County.
One lane will remain open in each direction on KY 80, and the project is expected to conclude on Monday, September 30. The project will be adding turning lanes along with installing a J-Turn intersection.
The J-Turn involves the prohibition of left-turn and through movements from the side-street approaches and accommodates them by requiring drivers to turn right onto the main road then make a U-turn maneuver at a one-way directional median opening downstream. Left-turns from the main road approaches are executed in a manner similar to left-turns at a conventional intersection and are unaffected.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet asks motorists to be aware of the work zone, expected delays and to utilize safe driving habits when traveling through the area.
The date and time could be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Motorists can access travel and traffic conditions at http://goky.ky.gov or contribute their own reports at www.waze.com or via the Waze mobile application.
