“It was one of the scariest things I had ever seen.”
Video of swerving school bus posted to social media
ROBERTSON COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A video on social media has gained a lot of attention, showing a school bus weaving all over the road.
The mom who shared the video spoke about the post and her reaction as a mother, herself.
“I was shocked,” said Candice Pierson. “It was one of the scariest things I had ever seen. At points in the video, I was like trying to cover my face because I didn’t know what was going to happen.”
On Monday, Pierson’s husband was driving home on KY 165 in Robertson county when he came up behind a school bus that seemed to be swerving in and out of both lanes, running onto the shoulder and almost hitting oncoming cars.
After her husband showed her the video, she decided to post it to Facebook hoping the school would find out and investigate.
Many parents saw her post. Where it received numerous comments and nearly a thousand shares.
“A lot of people that had commented on the video were like ‘and this is why we have to worry about who we leave our kids with even at the schools’,” said Pierson. “That was one of the reasons my husband began to record, because he was scared. He didn’t know that kids weren’t on the bus.”
As a mother to a kindergartner, Pierson now wonders if the bus is safe.
“We have let him ride the school bus home with his older brother. But now it’s like, do I even do that? Like, should we pick them up from school? Should we have somebody pick them up from school? ”
Pierson says she was told the incident is now under investigation.
“I’ve spoken to one of the parents briefly whose child does ride that bus, and that bus is a preschool bus, so they’re ages three to five, and she did say they told her it was under investigation.”
ABC 36 News Now has reached out to officials at Gateway, which operates the bus, about the incident, but have not heard back from them.
When they get back with us, we’ll pass their comments on to you.
