Islamic Center of Lexington reacts to New Zealand Attack
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The death toll on the New Zealand mosque attack has now risen to 50 people.
A volunteer with the Islamic Center of Lexington says it feels like an attack on the Muslim community.
He says since the mass shooting, he’s been praying with friends and family.
To show support, people in the community have anonymously sent flowers and notes saying we stand beside you.
“This is not only a test for us as family, as members, it’s also a test for us to see other people when we see people die from any other religion or group. It is a test for us too,” said Ashraf Fahmy, Volunteer.
Ashraf says to move forward we need to accept people no matter their race or religion.
He believes we can do that by talking and learning about one another.
