Intruder stabbed during assault, police say

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – Two people were injured and one faces charges after a resident apparently stabbed an intruder late Wednesday night in Bardstown.

According to Bardstown Police, officers responded to the 400 block of North First Street at about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday for an assault. Officers found 56-year-old Thomas J. Mudd, who they described as a suspect, had a knife wound to his lower back, the department said in a statement.

Following an investigation, officers determined Mudd forced his way into the residence and physically assaulted him. Both the victim and suspect were taken to the hospital for treatment, police said.

Mudd will be taken to  the Nelson County Detention Center once released from the hospital. He faces a first-degree burglary charge.
