Increase in Lexington cases remains tied to prison
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Lexington and Fayette County his 673 through Wednesday, according to the latest numbers from the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department.
The total includes 28 new cases reported Thursday morning from Wednesday’s test results.
Of the 28, 20 are at the Federal Medical Center, the 1,400-bed federal prison that houses medically needed federal prisoners.
It has been a coronavirus hotspot for the last month and now has 268 cases among inmates, according to the Health Department.
In total, Fayette County has recorded 13 deaths, including four among FMC inmates.
