Images of suspected puppy thieves released
LHS officials say a couple deliberately selected ‘Thompson,’ a 10-week old Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler mix to look at for possible adoption. They say after getting the puppy from its cage, the man took it to an outdoor puppy play yard and tossed it over a high fence to the woman who was waiting on the other side.
LHS officials say the man pushed a bench from the yard against the door so no one could get into the pen. The Humane Society did not say how the man reportedly left the Adoption Center. LHS staffers say they noticed the puppy was missing during routine rounds around 5:00 p.m.
The Humane Society offered the couple a grace period where no questions would be asked if they returned the puppy to the LHS satellite adoption center at PetSmart in Hamburg Pavilion by 9:00 p.m. LHS officials say no one showed up.
The Humane Society released security camera images of the couple. Lexington Police and Animal Control are investigating.
LHS officials are asking anyone with information in the case to call Lexington Police at 859-258-3600 or the Humane Society’s Emergency Line at 859-233-0044, extension 247. Callers can remain anonymous.
