Icy roads, 21 accidents overnight in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)-  Black ice on bridges and roadways, along with frosty temperatures permeated across Lexington overnight causing a total of 21 accidents, 19 of them non-injury, and two of them minor injuries.

According to Lexington Police, I-75 North was blocked off near exit 110 after several accidents occurred during the overnight hours.

Police say there were 21 accidents that happened between midnight and 4 a.m.

Police also say they had the ramp of exit 110 closed for about an hour because of an accident involving a semi-truck that caused a minor fuel spill.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, I-75 northbound was closed from one this morning until just after four.

They say I-75 southbound is still closed while crews are still working to clear the roadway.

Lexington Police say salt trucks will be out this morning until the afternoon hours to help alleviate the icy conditions.

Police say they advise everyone to drive safe and use caution during morning commutes.
