How are Lexington officials preparing for the winter weather potential next week?
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — While we’re on guard for a few slick spots Wednesday night as temperatures drop below freezing, we’re focused on this coming weekend into next week for the increasing potential of an extended period of winter weather.
ABC 36 went to the Lexington Streets and Road Department where we could see plenty of salt given the lack of winter weather so far this season. But this supply will start to diminish into next week.
“We are actually already planning on pre-treating the roads on Sunday, with the salt brine and beet heat additive which the cold polar arctic air is a bigger problem than just a couple inches of snow. Luckily this additive we use is a sugar beet derivative and it also goes down to -18,” said Director of LFUCG Streets & Roads Rob Allen.
He also added that once the snow starts flying, take it extra slow on the roadways, allow extra time to get to and from your destinations and watch out for salt and plow trucks.
