Lexington Firefighters kick-in door to save man from house fire

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington firefighters kicked-in the front door of a home to save a man from a house fire early Saturday.

The call came in just before 1:00 a.m. for a house fire in the 1200 block of Keeneland Court.

Investigators say a neighbor smelled smoke and started knocking on the front door of the home, but no one answered. Investigators say the neighbor tried to kick the door in, but was unsuccessful.

Firefighters say a passerby saw the fire and called 9-1-1.

When firefighters arrived they were told an older man lived alone in the home and was believed to still be inside. That’s when firefighters kicked-in the door, found the man unconscious in the living room and got him out of the house.

The man, whose name wasn’t released, was taken to UK Hospital after suffering breathing problems. Investigators say the man suffered life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say the fire is believed to have started in the back of the home near the back door.

The cause is under investigation.
