Hot car tips

As summer temperatures continue to rise, AAA has released several tips to help drivers keep their cars cool and avoid breakdowns.

Key Tips from AAA:

  1. Crack Windows or Sunroof: This helps to ventilate your car and reduce the interior temperature.
  2. Keep Water in Your Car: In case of a breakdown, having water on hand can be crucial while waiting for assistance.
  3. Monitor Battery Condition: Heat can negatively impact car batteries more than cold weather.
  4. Check Tire Tread and PSI: Ensure your tires are properly inflated and the tread depth is adequate for safe driving.

“Heat affects batteries worse than cold weather does. Also, your tire condition, the PSI – make sure you’ve got properly inflated tires. Make sure your tread depth is good,” said Randy Tate, fleet operations manager for AAA.

Additional tips include ensuring your car’s coolant system is functioning correctly to prevent overheating.

AAA also reminds drivers: if you see a child or pet locked in a car on a hot day, do not hesitate to break the windows to free them.

Stay safe and cool this summer by following these tips from AAA.
