Horse racing industry mourns death of jockey killed in car crash

FLORENCE, Ky. (WTVQ) – The thoroughbred industry is mourning the sudden death of an up-and-coming jockey who was killed in a car crash in Florence.

Police say 28-year old Euclyn Pede Prentice went out to dinner with some friends Sunday night and was headed home when he collided with the driver’s side of a tank bus in the intersection of Houston Road and Hansel Avenue.

He was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Florence, according to investigators.

Most recently he had been riding at Belterra Park.  He rode at Keeneland in the most recent Spring Meet, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.

He leaves behind an 8-year old daughter in St. Croix in his native Virgin Islands.
