Hops and Vine Festival celebrates local business

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – Richmond’s eighth annual Hops and Vine Festival took place Saturday, but was made even more special with the 40th birthday celebration of Apollo Pizza.

Organizers say after taking a break last year due to COVID, they were expecting anywhere from 2,000-2,500 people to attend. Craft breweries and wineries had booths set up and food trucks lined the road for festival goers to enjoy.

The Hops and Vine Festival is a fundraiser to support the Madison County Humane Society and adoptable puppies were brought out to the festival for people to meet.

“When we started this, there was no festival like this in Richmond. There was definitely not a festival that served beer,” says Wesley Browne, Apollo Pizza co-owner. “When we first did it, it kinda sent shock waves because that just wasn’t something that happened in Madison County, we went to things like that in other places and our ownership and our staff and management said ‘why can’t we have that in Richmond?’ and we did it ourselves.”

Organizers say they were worried the festival wouldn’t happen this year but they’re happy restrictions lifted just in time to plan and celebrate together again.
