‘Holiday Lights’ a $100,000 pay off for Lexington woman
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The holiday season is looking brighter for a Lexington woman after purchasing a Holiday Lights Kentucky Lottery scratch-off ticket.
Last week, the woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, cashed in the $10 ticket after realizing she had won the game’s $100,000 top prize.
She had stopped at Joe’s Food Mart in Nicholasville for a drink when she decided to buy the lottery ticket. She said it was the lights on the ticket that made her choose that game.
While scratching the ticket off in the store, she matched the number 17, where she went on to reveal the $100,000 prize below.
“I had a hard time believing I had won that much money,” she said.
She proceeded to check the ticket using the self-ticket scanner receiving the confirmation she needed.
“I was very happy,” she said.
She left the store and went home to tell her son.
“We couldn’t believe it; she never wins more than a few hundred dollars. This time we saw a lot of zeroes. I didn’t realize a ten-dollar ticket would pay out that much money,” he told lottery officials.
After taxes, the Lexington woman received a check for $71,000. She plans to help family with her winnings.
Joe’s Food Mart will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
