Hikers rescued after fall at Red River Gorge

WOLFE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- Three hikers found themselves in need of rescuing early this morning after a fall at Red River Gorge.

Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team members say they got the call just after midnight and were able to find the hikers based on a “brief description.” They say the hikers were in a cave just before falling. Rescuers say they were in the Moonshiner’s Arch/Samson’s Cave area near Douglas Trail and Osborne Bend Trail.

Rescuers say the trio fell around 50-feet and were around or in the Red River with multiple traumatic injuries. Some of those injuries are described as “grave” by rescuers from Wolfe County.

They say due to low visibility, the group could not be taken to the hospital by helicopter. No word on their conditions.
