Hiker bitten by Copperhead in Powell County

POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- With temperatures warming, more people are out enjoying the weather; however, humans are not the only thing out enjoying the warmth.

A woman was hiking the Martins Fork Trail Wednesday afternoon when she was bitten in the ankle by a Copperhead snake.

The 911 call came in to dispatch around 12:30 PM.

According to the Powell County Search and Rescue Facebook page, the woman was bitten on the inside of her right ankle and carried out for transport to EMS.

This is a reminder to hikers that tennis shoes, sandals, and shorts are not a good option for hiking; remember to wear boots and long pants.
