High Winds Cause Downed Trees, Power Outages

Versailles Road was closed for most of the day Monday because of downed power lines. It reopened just before five o’clock in the evening.

Strong winds also knocked out power to more than 14,000 people in Lexington according to Kentucky Utilities.

KU crews rerouted power to other lines and most people had electricity back Monday afternoon.

Just after ten o’clock Monday morning fire crews said high winds caused a tree to fall on a power line along Versailles Road.

Crews said lines were down across all six lanes of traffic and the road had to be closed.

Electricity was knocked out to about 11,000 KU customers in the Versailles Road area.

Power was also out in the Landsdowne Drive area.
The wind knocked over empty trashcans and KU said high winds knocked out power to about 1,400 customers.
KU said crews have been aggressive in cutting back tree branches from power lines to avoid these outages but with winds up to 50 mph KU said all bets are off and it will have outages.
