High voter turnout, increased calls for voter registration in Fayette County

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Voting polls across Central Kentucky are very busy and election officials say that is to be expected during a presidential election.

Though the polls were not open until 6 a.m. — voters stood in line as early as 5 a.m.

The Fayette County Clerk’s Office says their phone lines are also busy with calls to confirm voter registration.

Elections Manager, Tracy Merriman says her office anticipated a lot of activity with the presidential, senate and house races.

Only on precinct reported issues with their machines –that forced them to open a half hour late.

According to the clerks office, extra machines were also brought into the polls with the most traffic to avoid further problems.
