Heavy rain moves east on Friday

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Heavy overnight rain has brought over an inch to most areas across central Kentucky, with some spots exceeding two inches. Flooding concerns will linger this morning, especially in low-lying areas and near creeks and streams in southern and eastern Kentucky, where rain continues. Meanwhile, Lexington and areas to the north and west are drying out, and that trend will extend through the morning hours as the rain shifts eastward.

By late morning, partial clearing and a strengthening southerly breeze will allow temperatures to spike into the upper 50s and low 60s. Winds may gust up to 25-30 mph in some spots, particularly across central Kentucky.

Afternoon Storms Possible
This afternoon a few isolated to widely scattered showers and storms may develop across south-central Kentucky. Severe weather is not anticipated, but a few of these storms could produce strong wind gusts or isolated small hail, especially south of the Cumberland Parkway. The storm activity will taper off by early evening, leading to a quieter night.

Additonal Rainfall

Weekend Outlook
Tonight, dry conditions take over, with overnight lows dipping into the upper 30s. Cloud cover will persist through most of Saturday, keeping temperatures cooler in the low-to-mid 40s. However, clearing skies Saturday night into Sunday will set the stage for a beautiful end to the weekend.

Sunday will feature ample sunshine, a strong southerly breeze, and a warm-up to the upper 50s and low 60s. Monday looks even warmer, with highs in the low-to-mid 60s, making it the Dillon Gaudet “Go Day” of the Week—ideal for outdoor plans.

Warm Up Next Week

Next Week’s Preview
A weak boundary will bring a slight dip in temperatures on Tuesday, with highs in the mid-to-upper 50s. By midweek, temperatures rebound into the 60s, and even upper 60s may be possible by Thursday ahead of another rain system late in the week.
