Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Thursday! We are tracking an end to the heavy rain through your morning hours. The heavier rain and storms will linger a bit longer into the mid-morning hours into far southern Kentucky before finally exiting. Southern Kentucky is going to end up with a widespread 2-4 inches of rain over the past two days, thankfully we haven’t received any flash flooding reports in far southern Kentucky. Creeks and streams will be running high through most of the first half of the day today, so be alert for that.
There is an isolated chance of a few strong-to-severe storms during the afternoon and early evening hours today ahead of a passing cold front. There is a Level 1 Severe Risk for areas north and east of Lexington, with isolated large hail and damaging wind gusts as the primary threats.
As the cold front finally passes later this evening, we will begin to finally feel the temperature drop. Temperatures on Friday will struggle to reach the mid-60s for most areas. There will also be the possibility of a few isolated showers through the midday and afternoon. The below average temperatures stick around to start the weekend on Saturday. There will also be another isolated shower and storm chance Saturday as well.
Mother’s Day brings a break in the rain chances! High pressure builds across the region on Sunday and that leads to dry conditions, sunny skies, and seasonably cooler temperatures. Enjoy the break in the action because rain and storm chances return by the middle of next week.
