Heat just fine for Lexington flower business

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- If humans feel like wilting during this stretch of high temperatures, wouldn’t flowers?

A Lexington flower shop says, no.

Sunshine Grow Shop says all the rain from earlier this year is actually helping the flowers right now.

“Rain is a good thing when you’re in the flower business. They say April showers bring May flowers so all that rain in June really got the flowers well-rooted and so they’re capable of handling the drought a little bit better because we did get all that rain in June,” Joe Ellis said.

Ellis says the shop is scheduling most work during the early morning hours to avoid the highest temperatures.

Ellis hopes the temperatures won’t stop people from coming by this weekend.

He says the shop is handing out free water and Gatorade to keep customers cool.
