Heat Holds On as the Weekend Arrives
Sunshine and Low Storm Chances Dominate Central and Eastern Kentucky
Summer Sizzle for Saturday
An upper-level ridge of high pressure is firmly in control, setting us up for a warm and mostly dry August Saturday. Afternoon highs will soar into the low 90s for most of us, and with humidity near seasonal norms, it’ll feel just a touch hotter. That means if you’re heading outdoors—whether it’s the lake, pool, or backyard barbecue—make sure to stay hydrated and don’t forget the sunscreen.
Sunday Stays Hot, But Mostly Dry
Sunday will be a near repeat of Saturday—low 90s for highs, plenty of sunshine, and heat indices creeping into the upper 90s in some spots. While most of us stay dry, an isolated afternoon pop-up storm can’t be completely ruled out. These will be very hit-or-miss, so the vast majority of outdoor plans should be just fine. Light winds and mostly clear skies will lead to comfortable summer nights in the upper 60s to low 70s.
Storm Chances Return Next Week
On Monday, moisture will slowly begin returning, bringing a slight uptick in stray storm chances—especially in southern Kentucky. By midweek, a slow-moving frontal boundary will approach the Ohio Valley, increasing our scattered storm chances Tuesday through Thursday. While widespread severe weather isn’t expected, any storms could produce heavy downpours, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. Temperatures will still hold in the upper 80s and low 90s, keeping that summer feel going strong.
