Heat Hangs On Through the Weekend

More summer sizzle ahead, but storm chances return to the forecast as we start the new week.

Hot, Sunny, and Mostly Dry for the Rest of the Holiday Weekend
Central and Eastern Kentucky continues to soak up classic midsummer weather. Sunshine has dominated, and that trend will roll right through Sunday. Afternoon highs will once again climb into the low to mid-90s, making it feel quite hot, especially during peak heating. While humidity levels are slowly inching up, they won’t be oppressive just yet, and most of us should see heat index values stay below 100°. It’s the kind of heat where hydration, sunscreen, and the occasional shady break are your best friends.

Isolated Sunday Storms Possible
We can’t rule out a late-day storm or two on Sunday, particularly in the Bluegrass and areas west of I-65. These will be your typical summer “pop-up” style storms—brief, but capable of dropping heavy rain, some gusty winds, and frequent lightning in isolated areas. Most of us will stay dry, but it’s a heads-up if you’re wrapping up the weekend outdoors.

Scattered Storms Return Next Week
Starting Monday, the pattern begins to shift. A cold front dips into the region, but instead of sweeping through, it’s expected to stall out across the Ohio Valley. This will open the door for daily chances of scattered showers and storms, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. While no widespread severe weather is expected, a few stronger storms with heavy rain and isolated wind gusts could pop up. This won’t be a washout type of week, but having the umbrella close by will be a smart move through midweek.

Temperatures Settle, But Humidity Sticks Around
Afternoon highs will back off slightly by midweek—expect more days in the upper 80s—but humidity levels will stay elevated, keeping it feeling a bit sticky. Nights will remain warm and muggy, with lows in the 70s.
