Heat and humidity returns ahead of Beryl’s remnants

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Monday! Hopefully you had the chance to enjoy the beautiful weekend. We are tracking an increase in cloud cover and a return of the humidity today. Afternoon highs will climb into the upper 80s and low 90s across the region. There is a small chance we sneak in a pop-up shower or storm, but that chance should be limited to the mountains in southeastern Kentucky. Our return of muggy air, in part, is due to the influx of tropical moisture out ahead of Beryl.

Beryl made landfall along the Texas coastline early Monday and morning and will be moving through eastern Texas for the remainder of the day. This storm will be weakening in wind speed as it travels through the Mississippi Valley into eastern Missouri and southern Illinois by Tuesday. We are outside of the path of the remnant low from Beryl, which means widespread heavy rain is much less of a concern. However, being on the eastern side of a remnant tropical system means we will see an increased risk of strong storms.

There is a Level 1 Severe Risk out for most of the ABC 36 viewing area for Tuesday into Tuesday night. I would not be surprised to see this upgraded to a Level 2 Severe Risk to our west. With remnant area of low pressure moving to our west, that puts us in the increased risk for rotating storms. Model data suggests this will stay to our north and west for the most part. However, this is still something will be watching closely because the track of what’s left of Beryl will make all the difference. By Wednesday, the area of low pressure will be exiting to the northeast. This will drag a cold front along with it. This front will be bringing us another round of showers and maybe a storm or two. This will also bring us a drop in temperatures Wednesday into Thursday. Both days will struggle to get out of the low-to-mid 80s.

We will drying up quickly late in the day on Wednesday as well. This should continue into Thursday, though an isolated shower or two can’t be ruled out Wednesday night. Enjoy the pleasant feeling temperatures on Thursday because we warm up in a big way Friday and that will last through the weekend. Low-to-eventually mid-90s look likely.
