Healthcare workers frustrated by unvaccinated

MOREHEAD, Ky. (WTVQ) – The pandemic was hard on people all over the commonwealth, but one group handled the coronavirus up close and personal on a daily basis. Governor Andy Beshear, Dr. Steven Stack and senior advisor Rocky Adkins joined healthcare workers in Morehead Wednesday as frontline heroes were honored and celebrated for their life saving efforts over the last year and a half.

“I know everybody has been in a stress and in a lot changes but being in healthcare and you’re right in front of it facing the danger, the unknown, the fear. Every day I still feel like ‘OK, what if I’m gonna get corona and I take it to my daughter’,” says Jenerose Richards, a nurse at St. Claire Healthcare.

Healthcare professionals are the epitome of essential workers. Working countless hours paired without much time off. Now, healthcare professionals at St. Claire Healthcare say they’re stressed and frustrated by the recent case upticks, especially given the number of people who won’t get vaccinated.

“The only thing I can say is, trust the doctors out there because they are really working hard,” says Richards. “We are all in this together.”

Governor Andy Beshear says over 7,000 lives were lost to this virus and families weren’t allowed in. It was healthcare workers like Dr. Parker Banks who held hands and said goodbye to patients time after time.

“You know, whenever you take the oath to do no harm and then you look at families each and every time and you’re having to watch what this virus is doing, there’s nothing that stops the sadness that is there because you want to help every person you can and you wanna do what you can,” says Dr. Banks.

The past year has been filled with sadness and loss, but Wednesday’s event provided some hope. These frontline heroes say the best show of gratitude is for people to get vaccinated.

“I mean we have to at least be a team, you know? In order for us to really fight this pandemic we cannot fight it alone, we have to be in this together,” says Richards.
