Health Department To Stop Several Clinical Operations

Budget cuts are forcing the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department to stop offering some clinical services starting Monday, July 16.

According to the Health Department, the Clinic will no longer see patients for:

·        Breast and Cervical Cancer Assessment

·        Adult Immunizations or Physical Examinations

·        Childhood Immunizations

·        Family Planning Services

·        Pregnancy Testing

Rich Leach, Commissioner of Health, says this is because of Federal and State Budget cuts. Within one year, his $18 million budget was cut to $14 million.

Most of the patient clinical load will be picked up by Health First Bluegrass.

Leach says this will be a win-win for Health First and the Health Department.

“It’s gonna let the public health department do public health and it’s gonna let the patients get really first class primary care from a clinic,” Leach comments.

Health First Bluegrass will start providing services on July 23. They are located at 650 Newtown Pike in Lexington.
