Health department spraying for mosquitoes after positive West Nile Virus test

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department is spraying one area of Lexington after a West Nile Virus test came back positive.

According to the health department, a pool of mosquitoes collected August 29 from a trapping station located in the 40509 ZIP code tested positive for the virus.

The health department says this is the first mosquito pool that has tested positive for West Nile Virus in Fayette County this year and that there have been no human cases of West Nile Virus have been reported in Lexington this season.

The department will spray for mosquitoes in the 40509 ZIP code from 3-6 a.m. Thursday.
