Popular, fun ‘Hats Off Day’ back at Horse Park Saturday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – After the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled last year’s Hats Off Day, it’s back.

The 18th annual Rood & Riddle event offers pony rides, exhibitions, and its best-known event, the $50,000 Rood & Riddle Kentucky Grand Prix show jumping competition.

It’s all about celebrating the importance of the horse industry around the world, but particularly in Kentucky.

“We want to celebrate and promote the horse industry, both in Kentucky and really throughout the country and the world. The horse industry has a very profound economic impact…it’s a very important part of who we are as Kentuckians,” said Founding Partner of Rood & Riddle Tom Riddle.

The event normally expects about 12-15,000 people annually, and provides guests with free admission to the entire park. The event is part of a fundraiser for the Kentucky Equine Adoption Center and the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation.

Stadium events will begin at 6:45 P.M. A variety of different events will be showcased, including demonstrations by Long Run Woodford Hounds and the Kentucky Horse Park’s Mustang Troop, as well as the presentation of the Rood & Riddle Comeback Award to a horse that has experienced a medical condition. Free hats will also be given out to the first 1,000 visitors.

Hats Off Day is Saturday, July 31st and begins at 3 P.M.The Rood & Riddle Kentucky Grand Prix show jumping competition begings at 7:30 P.M.
