Harrodsburg Firefighters: “We Want To Help Santa Out”

Firefighters in Harrodsburg are spreading holiday cheer on Christmas Eve, in an annual tradition that makes holidays a little easier for struggling families.

The Mercer County  Harrodsburg fire crews handed out toys to families in need at one of their stations.

"My kids want bikes and we’re thankful to the firefighters; they’re a blessing," said Maurice Bradley, recipient of gifts.

He said he has several children and the donation will make Christmas a little easier.

Organizer Chester Craig has been giving out toys in this fashion for 16 years.

"Every single year feels great to help these families out," said Craig, firefighter with Mercer and Harrodsburg Fire Departments.

They expect to help out around 30 families but said it is not about the numbers. 

Brian Steele, District Chief of Mercer County Central Fire Department, said they expect to help about 30 families.

"It’s not about numbers for us. Whether it’s one child or 100 children, the main focus is to help meet that need in the community," said Steele.

The firefighters will also will be passing out presents from their trucks starting at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
