Rockslide derails train, closes road in Harlan County

HARLAN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet advises motorists that KY 2007 at mile point 3.0 in Harlan County will be closed for at least a month following a large rock slide.

Alternate routes that can be used are KY 219 and KY 3467.

According to Judge Executive Dan Moseley, the slide occurred early Thursday morning between the Wallins and Coldiron communities, derailing a CSX train. No one was seriously injured on the train, according to Moseley.

“We are certainly thankful for that,” Moseley said in a Facebook post.

CSX and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews are on scene assessing the situation and developing a plan to get the train and debris removed.

According to the state, the date, time, and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Motorists can access travel and traffic conditions at http://goky.ky.gov or contribute their reports at www.waze.com or via the Waze mobile application.
