Harlan County Blackjewel miners caravan to court proceeding
HARLAN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Blackjewel miners are going to caravan to the company’s bankruptcy court proceedings in West Virginia on Monday.
Dan Mosley, Harlan County Judge Executive, posted to Facebook about the caravan and t-shirts for miners to wear.
On Saturday night, Governor Matt Bevin surprised miners at their protest concert in Harlan County, according to the Tri-City News.
He prayed over the group and said “I come here and I see real people who honest to goodness care about their community, care about their families. This is the life blood of who we are as Kentuckians.”
Blackjewel LLC filed for bankruptcy July 1. Miners had their last pay check bounce and haven’t been paid since.
The miners in Harlan County have been protesting on the train tracks for weeks blocking a train full of coal from leaving their county.
