Group Collecting Phones For Violence Prevention Grant

Your old phone can help fight domestic violence in Kentucky.

First Lady Jane Beshear and the Kentucky Commission on Women are kicking off domestic violence awareness month by turning trash into treasure.

They’re collecting out-of-use wireless devices which they’ll cash in for a grant from Verizon.

That money will be used to create safer workplaces for people living in abusive situation and for their coworkers.

The goal of the drive is to collect 3,500 devices with each one representing someone who spent at least one night in a domestic violence shelter in Kentucky in the past year.
