Grand Theatre Brings Eclectic Mix of Performances
The Grand Theatre in historic Frankfort, KY opened its doors in 2009 in response to the community’s need for a performance venue. The community came together and transformed the remnants of an old vaudeville house from 1911 into The Grand Theatre. Now in its 10th year, its success continues to grow as it features an amazing and eclectic lineup of amazing shows and artists throughout the year.
Best of all the theatre truly brings the community together since it’s staffed almost entirely by volunteers. Dedicated volunteers to usher, sell and take tickets, serve concessions, and run the art gallery located in the building. The gallery features regional and local artists. Currently, the gallery is displaying the work of Louisville artist, and Frankfort native, Stephanie Potter. Her exhibition “Meditations on the Path,” in a variety of mediums and styles, will remain through September.
Beginning August 23rd, the Who’s Bad: The Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute tour will stop at the Grand theatre. The show is complete with a range of Michael Jackson music, choreography, and costuming.
This year The Grand Theatre will delight audiences with an exciting lineup of popular, diverse, and award-winning acts. Just to name a few of the highlights this season, in September, the theatre will host Leo Kottke (almost sold out); Randy Backman (founder of The Guess Who and Backman Turner Overdrive); Diamond Rio (CMA winners); and Grammy-winner Rickie Lee Jones; and Lee Rocker and Brian Setzer both formerly of the Stray Cats.
In October the Grand Theatre will welcome and eclectic group of performers. Tito Puent, Jr. and singer, songwriter, dancer, and entertainer, Melina Almodovar, also known as La Muñeca de la Salsa, will perform a mix of Caribbean and salsa. Also in October will be Grammy Award winners Rodney Crowell and Shawn Colvin.
When they aren’t showing live performances, they show recent and classic movies such as I, Tonya, The Big Lebowski, Rebel Without a Cause, and South Pacific.
