Grand jury to review fatal shooting during fight in Clay County

CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Clay County Grand Jury will review the circumstances of a shooting Saturday that happened during a fight and left one man dead.

According to Kentucky State Police, 50-year-old Bryan T. Hammons, of Manchester, died at Advent Health Hospital in Manchester following the incident which was reported to troopers at about 2:10p.m. Saturday.

The fatal shooting took place outside a home on Dripping Springs Road in Clay County.

According to troopers, the preliminary investigation reveals Hammons and 58-year-old Richard K. Webb, of London, were in a fight and Webb shot Hammons once.

Hammons has been taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville for an autopsy, the KSP said in a statement.

The investigation is continuing and will be presented to the Clay County Grand Jury to determine whether the shooting was a case of self defense.

The investigation is continuing by KSP Post 11 Det. James Royal. He was assisted at the scene by Post 11 personnel, Clay County Sherriff’s Office, Manchester Police Department, Clay County EMS and Clay County Coroner.
