Governor declares State of Emergency

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Governor Andy Beshear declared a State of Emergency following severe storms that ripped through the commonwealth earlier today (4/02).

The declaration comes ahead of more storms, which the ABC36 Storm Team is tracking for later today.

In the declaration, the governor said, “We have reports of substantial damage to a number of structures – and thankfully, as of right now we are not aware of any fatalities,” Gov. Beshear said. “We need all Kentuckians to stay weather aware as we brace for more severe weather throughout the afternoon and evening.”

The governor also activated the state’s price gouging laws.

Thousands of residents are still without power throughout the commonwealth.
