Governor Andy Beshear cuts ribbon in a ceremony commemorating the opening of a new Waypoint Center

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Governor Andy Beshear, alongside Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton and Senator Reginald Thomas, participated in the grand opening ceremony of the Marksbury Family Waypoint Center today. The center, located at an old pharmacy once owned by Dr. Ziri Palmer, one of the first Black pharmacists in Lexington, aims to serve as a vital resource hub for families and individuals living in underdeveloped neighborhoods.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Beshear expressed gratitude to the local leaders for their dedication to the city and emphasized the importance of the center in providing essential programming and support to the community. “What I see is a strong group of leaders that care about this city, and today, they’re showing they care about every single part of this city,”said Beshear.

Funded by the Marksbury Family Foundation and operated by the United Way of the Bluegrass, the new center is poised to make a meaningful impact on the lives of residents in Lexington.
