Gov. Beshear to quarantine after guard tests positive for COVID

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP/WTVQ) – Gov. Beshear says he will quarantine after a member of his security detail tested positive for COVID-19.

Beshear says the state police trooper drove with his family on Saturday and later tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Democratic governor says he and his family feel fine, show no symptoms and have tested negative for the virus.

Beshear said his family wasn’t in contact with anyone else after they were dropped off Saturday.

The Governor said his family and the trooper all wore facial coverings, but says the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH) recommend quarantine if an individual is within six feet of a positive person for more than 15 minutes.

Beshear will continue to hold daily COVID-19 updates but virtually for at least this week.

In a social media video Sunday, Beshear said he’s committed to “setting an example” by quarantining after receiving a call from a contact tracer.
