Gov. Beshear speaks at ‘Lift Every Voice’ event

LEXINGTON, Ky. ( ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – February marks Black History Month and on Saturday, Women of Worship held the annual Black History Month event, ‘Lift Every Voice.’

The event began at 4 p.m. and was held at the Consolidated Baptist Church on Russell Cave Road.

Many were in attendance including Mayor Linda Gorton and Governor Andy Beshear.

Beshear spoke at about the importance of these events.

“I understand that I will never feel the weight of discrimination, of racism, of the hurt of the decades and centuries that has been in our country,” said Beshear. “But I will listen, I’ll try to hear, and I’ll try to do the right things for us to step forward together.”

Several priests, apostles, and gospel singers were also in attendance to help lift every voice in the building.
