Gobble Grease Toss sets record

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – There was a lot of grease gobbled in Lexington last week, and it wasn’t just during Thanksgiving dinner.

Redwood Cooperative School says its Gobble Grease Toss last week set a record, collecting 402 gallons of grease from 83 participants.

Students and parents at Redwood Cooperative School collected the cooking oil, which will serve two purposes: it will be recycled by Kelley Green Biofuel as well as used for research by the
University of Kentucky’s Center for Applied Energy Research (UK CAER).

UK CAER says it is currently working on projects focused on developing new technology to convert feedstocks, like waste cooking oil, to fuels.

Redwood students who were involved with the Gobble Grease Toss will visit UK CAER to learn about cooking oil and biofuel research firsthand.
