Georgetown gets a top 10 win at home, 69-67

GEORGETOWN, KY (GC Athletics)- Georgetown College men’s basketball started Mid-South Conference action hosting No. 7 Campbellsville University. The No. 9 Tigers were playing shorthanded – just eight players dressed and only seven of those played (two of which had the flu). GC gritted it out, rallying from 10 down with less than 11 minutes left and nine with 5:31 showing for a 69-67 victory to improve to 15-1 overall and 1-0 in league play. CU falls to 14-2 and 0-1.

Brodricks Jones came up huge with a pair of threes (2:03 and 1:28) to tie the game a 65. Hagen Tyler gave the visitors its final lead with two free throws with 57 seconds left. Chris Coffey rattled the rim with a dunk for the tie, but missed the and one.

Jones blocked Campbellsville’s next attempt, Coffey cleared the miss – his 17th rebound of the day. This set up the home team for a driving bucket from Eljay Cowherd. With four seconds left CU had another opportunity, but turned it over (just the 11th of the afternoon for Campbellsville).

Jacob Conway, who hit several big threes, in the final 20 minutes, finished with a team-high 15 points. Jones and Cowherd each finished with 14, while Coffey added 12 and Troy Steward 10. Dominique Reid came off the bench with four points and seven rebounds.

Andrew Smith came to life for the visitors in the second half to finish with a game-high 21 points. Stephaun Adams added 17 and Tyler 14 to led Campbellsville.

The tough round inside the stacked MSC play continues 8 pm Thursday as the Tigers welcome in Lindsey Wilson College.
