Georgetown College football player dies from fall

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Georgetown College football player died Monday from a traumatic brain injury suffered in a fall over the weekend at a fraternity house, according to the Fayette County coroner and Georgetown Police. Investigators say they were called to the Lambda Chi Fraternity house on Hollyhock Lane in Georgetown around 12:10 a.m. Sunday because 18-year old Colson Machlitt, of Villa Hills, Kentucky, had hit his head.

Police say Machlitt tried to jump from a third floor stairwell to a second floor landing when he hit his head.

He was rushed to UK Hospital in Lexington where he died a day later.

Investigators say they believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.

Georgetown Police say they are working closely with Georgetown College in the ongoing investigation.

Machlitt was a sophomore defensive lineman for the Tigers who played his high school football at Dixie Heights.

The Georgetown College released the following statement:

“As a campus community we are deeply touched by the loss of a student and friend.”

Funeral arrangements for Machlitt are incomplete.
